Islamabad (Chitral Express) — Kamal Abdul Jamil, chief executive of the Chitral Football League (CFL), was honoured with the “Visionary CEO Award” at the Pakistan Business Excellence Summit. The award was presented in recognition of his vision and services in promoting football; encouraging young people’s participation and well-being through sport; fostering peace and social harmony; advancing social development; and creating opportunities for local communities and the local economy.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Kamal Abdul Jamil said that prominent figures from different walks of life were attending this unique summit held at the national level. He said he was the only person present from the sports sector—football—which, he said, shows that over its six-year journey the Chitral Football League has played a role in linking “football” with the business sector. He said it was undoubtedly surprising for many of the people at the summit to see a football event receiving recognition. However, the Chitral Football League is not just a tournament; it is an event that has a direct impact on other important sectors of society.
He said the Chitral Football League had highlighted the idea that football is not limited to recreation or sport but has the potential to become a full-fledged industry. It can create new opportunities in tourism, hospitality, transport, local businesses, positive activities for young people, social harmony and community development.
He said football has become a major industry in Europe, North and South America, and the Gulf countries. Therefore, he said, Pakistan also needs to recognize it as an industry rather than only as a sport. He urged the government, the corporate sector and the media to play an effective role in promoting football and to provide the sector with support and resources in line with its potential.
On the occasion, the Chitral Football League chief executive thanked all the league’s partners, sponsors and supporters, saying their cooperation had played an important role in moving this journey forward. He expressed his resolve to continue working to bring lasting and positive change to society through sport, create opportunities for young people and develop the community.
