Secours Islamique France (SIF) Organizes Consultative Workshop on GLOF in Chitral

Chitral: Secours Islamique France (SIF), in collaboration with the District Administration of Lower Chitral, organized a consultative workshop in Chitral regarding Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF), under the banner of the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP).

The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral, Mr. Mohammad Imran Khan, who participated actively. Officials from relevant departments and other NGO representatives also attended the workshop.

During the workshop, the Deputy Commissioner praised SIF’s efforts in reducing disaster risk in Chitral. The objective of the consultative workshop is to facilitate the development of a comprehensive DDMP focusing on GLOF risk management. Stakeholders from various departments, agencies, and organizations will come together to identify risks, assess hazards, and develop practical strategies for preparedness, response, and recovery from disasters.

The workshop aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Identify specific vulnerabilities and risks in the district.
  2. Foster a shared understanding of the roles and responsibilities in disaster management.
  3. Establish a framework for reducing risks and organizing preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
  4. Develop an action plan and timelines for implementing the DDMP

The workshop represents a collaborative effort to address the critical issue of GLOF and enhance disaster resilience in Chitral.
