CHITRAL: A Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) exhibition emerged as a major attraction during the reception ceremony held at Chitral Airport on the occasion of the visit of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan.
The exhibition stall was visited by His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, along with other distinguished guests, policymakers, and senior government officials.
The stall showcased a wide range of natural products derived from the forests of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including medicinal and aromatic plants, wild honey, mushrooms, walnuts, pine nuts (chilgoza), herbs, and other forest-based products. These resources play a significant role in supporting rural livelihoods and promoting sustainable economic development in mountain communities.

Representing the Forest Department, Assistant Director NTFP Ajaz Ahmad briefed the visitors on the sustainable utilization of non-timber forest products, value addition initiatives, business opportunities, and efforts to improve market access for local producers. He also highlighted the importance of branding, modern processing techniques, and access to national and international markets as key tools for empowering local communities, particularly women and small-scale entrepreneurs.
The visiting dignitaries appreciated the efforts being made to transform forest resources into environmentally sustainable economic opportunities. They observed that such initiatives not only strengthen mountain economies but also contribute to job creation, poverty reduction, and the conservation of biodiversity.
The exhibition underscored the importance of collaboration among government institutions, development organizations, and local communities in harnessing the natural wealth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
