Peshawar: Emergency Operations Center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirms the detection of three polio cases from District LakkiMarwat raising the total count of polio cases to 64in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Stool Sample of the affected children was sent to the National Institute of Health where wild poliovirus was isolated from the stool samples of 32 months boy of UC Bakhmal Ahmadzai, 2 months boy of UCMashamanso and a 2-month boy of UC DaratanginDistrict LakkiMarwat. According to parents, all the affected children were zero doses for essential immunization.

CoordinatorEOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Abdul Basit said any child left unvaccinated is a risk to all the children in the surrounding. Every parent/caregiver needs to understand the fact that deciding not to vaccinate their children not only puts their children at risk of getting paralyzed but also the other children in their surroundings. He said billions of doses of OPV polio vaccine has been administered to children globally which have helped in the eradication of poliovirus, therefore, don’t allow yourself to lure into believing in propagandas. Parents/Caregivers must realize that the instant they say no to vaccination is the very moment they decided not to protect their children and others in the surrounding from lifelong paralyzed. He reminded parents/caregivers that we all are connected and everyone in the community has a role to play so everyone must do their part.

Coordinator EOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appealed to parents/caregivers to cooperate with polio workers and ensure the administration of the anti-polio vaccine and essential immunization to your children. Because vaccinating every child with OPV is the only way to end the transmission of the virus and eradicate polio in Pakistan.
