Lower Chitral Police Hold Social and Legal Awareness Session for Female Students

On the special instructions of Malakand Regional Police Officer Zahid Nawaz and Lower Chitral District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Khalid Khan, Lower Chitral police held an awareness session at the Police Facilitation Centre in Zargaranda. A large number of female students from Frontier Corps (FC) Public School and College in Drosh and Chitral took part.

Lower Chitral DPO Muhammad Khalid Khan attended the session as chief guest. DSP Legal Sher Mohsin-ul-Mulk, Farooq Azam, an education officer at FC Public School and College, Sub-Inspector (SI) Dilshad Pari, who is in charge of the Suicide Prevention Unit and Gender Response Centre, and other police officers were also present.

In his address to the students, DPO Muhammad Khalid Khan spoke in detail about the growing trend of suicide, its underlying causes and prevention. He provided information about different forms of harassment, how to avoid it, the legal protections available to women and female students, and the importance of contacting the relevant authorities promptly in any unpleasant situation.

Speaking about the negative effects of drugs and other social ills, the Lower Chitral DPO said: “The younger generation is our valuable asset. All segments of society must make a collective effort for their positive upbringing, mental and social protection, and a bright future. If female students face any mental distress or an unpleasant situation, they should not remain silent; they should feel free to seek guidance and help from their parents, teachers and relevant institutions such as the police.”

The session included a question-and-answer period, during which the students were given an opportunity to raise questions freely about their concerns and the problems they faced. Police officers provided satisfactory answers.

The main purpose of the awareness programme was to build students’ awareness of serious issues such as suicide, drugs and harassment, familiarise them with their legal rights, and encourage them to help create a safe and healthy society.

According to a Lower Chitral Police spokesperson, such training and awareness programmes will continue in collaboration with educational institutions to guide the younger generation, protect women and address social ills.
