Sports Week Begins at Government Primary School Ayon; SDEO Taj Muhammad Inaugurates It

Chitral (Mahkamuddin) — The Education Department has launched Sports Week in Chitral this year, as it does every year, to involve students in co-curricular activities and promote their physical and mental development. In this connection, a formal opening ceremony was held on Monday at Government Primary School Ayon. The chief guest was Taj Muhammad, SDEO of the Chitral Circle. Teachers and students from various government primary schools, along with local elders, attended in large numbers. The chief guest formally inaugurated Sports Week by cutting a ribbon. Addressing the gathering, Taj Muhammad said that sports activities, alongside education, are extremely important for children’s development. Sports improve children’s physical health and also enhance their mental abilities. He said that parents, teachers and students must all fulfill their responsibilities fully to achieve quality education, because the desired educational results cannot be attained without cooperation among all three. Referring to the experienced and qualified teachers, excellent buildings and furniture facilities at government schools, he expressed regret that most parents have very limited contact and cooperation with government schools, creating difficulties in achieving educational goals. He urged students to keep their primary focus on education and not give sports priority over it, but instead set aside time for sports to improve their mental and physical abilities. During the ceremony, local elders thanked SDEO Taj Muhammad for attending the opening of Sports Week and said that Government Primary School Ayon was a valuable gift from the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) to Ayon, Darkhananda and neighboring villages. They said the organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Shahzada Masood-ul-Mulk, particularly deserved tribute for establishing it. They said the school, with its attractive architectural design and extensive playground, was an exemplary primary school in the area and provided an excellent setting for sports activities. Later, the chief guest marked the practical start of Sports Week with a traditional tug-of-war contest, in which Government Primary School Ayon Sehan defeated the primary school in Atani Ayon.
