Upper Chitral (Shehzad Ahmed): An awareness and training session on preventing cervical cancer and the HPV vaccination campaign was held at the Upper Chitral Press Club, attended by senior health department officials, journalists, and women associated with the social sector.
Participants included Upper Chitral DHO Dr. Fayyaz Ali Rumi, EPI Coordinator Dr. Wali Khan, former DHO Dr. Rehmat Aman, a senior technician from the Health Department, and other relevant individuals.
On the occasion, Dr. Wali Khan and other experts gave participants detailed information about the importance of HPV vaccination, the causes of cervical cancer, and protective measures to prevent it.
The speakers said that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is launching an HPV vaccination campaign for girls aged 9 to 14 from November 11 to November 24, 2026. The aim of the campaign is to take timely preventive measures to protect girls from the risk of cervical cancer in the future.
During the session, Health Department officials urged journalists to use their media platforms to convey accurate information about HPV vaccination to the public, help address parents’ concerns, and play their part in preventing unverified information and rumors.
Members of the Upper Chitral Press Club and women working in the social sector also attended and expressed their resolve to play a role in the public awareness campaign.
The session emphasized that parents, teachers, the media, and social organizations have a very important shared role in ensuring girls’ health and a safe future.
