Chitral Hosts Successful Regional Youth Convention on Climate Change

Under the auspices of the EU-funded Civil Society Project, the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) accomplished a landmark by organizing a regional youth convention in Chitral, Pakistan. The event, held under the theme “Climate Change and the Emerging Role of CSOs & Youth,” witnessed the active participation of representatives from diverse sectors.

Key stakeholders, including Civil Society Organisations/Local Support Organisations (CSOs/LSOs), Youth Activists, government departments, the University of Chitral, and District Administration, gathered to address the pressing issue of climate change and discuss the pivotal role of youth and CSOs in addressing this global challenge.

The distinguished Deputy Commissioner of Chitral Lower District, Mr. Muhammad Imran Khan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling climate-related issues.

The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring esteemed representatives such as Dr. Mansoor Ullah Bag and Dr. Hafeez Ullah from Chitral University, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH), and Mr. Fida Ur Rehman, Director of Shahhed Usama Waraich Career Academy. The panel delved into the significance of climate change, emphasizing the crucial roles that youth and CSOs play in addressing environmental challenges. The audience, particularly youth activists, actively participated by posing insightful questions.

Ms. Farida Sultana Fari, Chairperson of the Youth Forum, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Challenges and Opportunities for the Youth of Chitral, shedding light on the region’s unique circumstances. Success stories from project beneficiaries further underscored the positive impact of the initiatives undertaken.

Adding vibrancy to the convention, an exhibition was organized, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative products through various stalls. This not only promoted local businesses but also highlighted sustainable practices aligned with the overarching theme of climate change.

The regional youth convention in Chitral served as a testament to the collective commitment of various stakeholders in addressing climate change challenges. It fostered dialogue, knowledge sharing, and community engagement, laying the foundation for collaborative efforts towards a more sustainable future.
