Muhammad Khalid Khan, District Police Officer (DPO) of Lower Chitral and recipient of the Tamgha-e-Shujaat, was the chief guest, while noted intellectual Professor Mumtaz Hussain presided. This unique and historic travelogue was written by noted writer and researcher Dr Inayatullah Faizi, recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
Speakers at the ceremony—Saleh Wali Azad, Zahoor-ul-Haq Danish, Farid Ahmad Raza, Javed Iqbal Javed, Maulana Khaliq-uz-Zaman, Zaheeruddin, Safiullah Asifi, Muhammad Irfan Irfan, Shahzada Tanveer-ul-Mulk, Mahkamuddin and others—paid glowing tribute to the book and its author. They said “Sail Do Yu” embodies all the literary merits and qualities of a travelogue and holds readers spellbound from the first page to the last. They said the book presents a clear and vivid picture of the geography, history and culture of Italy, Spain and Qatar, which the author visited during a stay of two months and ten days. They expressed confidence that the travelogue would secure a distinguished and prominent place in the history of Khowar and regional literature.
Addressing the ceremony, DPO Lower Chitral Muhammad Khalid Khan said that Chitral’s local language, Khowar, is so broad and rich that it has ample capacity to encompass all genres of literature. This has enabled Khowar to attain a distinguished and unique place among regional languages. He added that Dr Inayatullah Faizi’s travelogue is a clear example of Khowar’s developed and modern standard. The DPO stressed the urgent need to use language and literature as effective tools for promoting law and order, tolerance and brotherhood in society, and for eliminating extremism.
Chitral Press Club and the literary organization MIER jointly organized the event, and the travelogue was published by MIER. At the close of the ceremony, Dr Inayatullah Faizi’s efforts to promote Chitrali language and literature were appreciated, and participants described publication of this first travelogue in Khowar as a milestone on Chitral’s literary horizon.
